Although recent updates have made it even more difficult for sex workers to sell content on the site, Twitter is a great place to gain customers from should you decide to use it. Here is an easy guide on getting started on Twitter. I will be writing a more in-depth article for girl’s who already have Twitter soon.
Getting started
My favourite forum, Twitter allows uses to post fully adult content, so you can tease your fans and advertise your content to the masses. Across all social media, there are ‘promo accounts’, which you should especially utilise when you are first getting started. Aim for accounts with large followings, but also accounts that have a lot of interactions as they most likely have more followers who will see your post. Never, ever send these accounts nudes you wouldn’t have already posted yourself. Ask other sex workers the accounts they use, as some promo accounts are around purely to get nudes from newbie sex workers, so do your research.
Now, while full-frontal nudity is allowed on Twitter, try to refrain from posting it a lot, as recently some girls have had their accounts removed for ‘break terms and conditions. Sadly, this is not uncommon across all social media, so be safe and make a backup account. While censoring images may feel like a lot of effort, it will help keep you safe online, along with urging fans to purchase your uncensored content. Don’t put any nudity or implied nudity in your header or profile pictures as this is against Twitter’s terms and can have your account suspended.
Make sure to make use of the ‘pinned tweet’ feature by choosing your best photo or video and to include all of your social media and clip store links. This means every person who visits your page will see these links first, and hopefully click on them. Your pinned tweet can be changed as often as you like. I keep the URL of my ‘main’ pinned tweet safe on my desktop, so I can pin current deals and go back to my main after the deals are over.
If you don’t have the time to tweet every day, you can use apps such as buffer to queue your tweets to post automatically. Just make sure to not post links too regularly this may seem spammy to your fans.
Your Twitter timeline gives your fans a chance to respond to you, which gives the perfect opportunity to get feedback from clients, along with forming a relationship with them. Now, you don’t have to reply to every single account with no icon that replies to your tweet, but figure out who your regular fans are and begin to form a relationship with them. This will make them more likely to buy your content repeatedly and you may find yourself forming a real emotional connection with them. Your DMs can also be used for this, but a lot of time wasters will try to contact you so it may be better to just keep those closed.
While I don’t use them, RT groups are a good way to help grow your following and find other sex worker friends. Each RT group may have different rules, but usually, you will have to retweet most posts made in the group, then others will retweet your post. While this is a great way to gain a following when you first start, it may also look spammy to your followers if you have to retweet a lot of content. Also, some groups can be very strict and make you retweet posts every day, which isn’t realistic for all sex workers.
Hashtags can be used at first to help grow your following too, but make sure to keep it to as few as possible. The more hashtags you put in your post, the less likely people are to see it. Girls have suggested that hashtags can cause you to be shadowbanned, so if you fear that, it may be best to avoid altogether.
Retweeting your old posts can cause them to gain traction again but try to not retweet more than 3 at one time, as it can appear spammy on your fan’s timelines. Retweeting also shows your posts to followers who might have missed it, so even if you aren’t working, go on your page every few hours and retweet one of your older posts.
Replying to other models (in a non-spammy way) will make more and more users see your profile and perhaps follow you. This can be done by just complimenting other models or replying to promotion threads. Forming a bond with other sex workers will always help you, not just finically but emotionally. The industry is very isolating, so finding other models who understand the struggle of the job is an amazing feeling.
While Twitter may be great for fan interactions and drawing attention to yourself, its major drawback in the fact you must keep using the site to gain attention, unlike site such as Tumblr, where your posts will constantly be gaining attention and being reblogged throughout the website.
